Position announcement, November 15, 2009
Director of Music, Christ Church in Philadelphia
Christ Church Philadelphia seeks a full-time director of music. We seek an accomplished organist and choirmaster to lead the two Sunday morning services that currently reflect our 250 year musical traditions and the expected Episcopal form as well as more expanded resources. That person also needs to help discern and implement a third liturgy at a different time in a more diverse idiom, as well as function as leader, planner, and teacher of liturgy in general. Our adult choir is currently composed primarily of professional singers, but we need someone with strong choral and interpersonal skills to develop a congregational choir supported by professional singers. We seek a leader who will inspire and teach the children of our parish and community and develop ways for them to share in the leadership of worship. We have been blessed for decades by the Curtis Memorial Organ, but we seek a leader to develop and install our next organ with the Schoenstein company. We have new facilities that provide space for community outreach through music, and we seek a director of music who will use music and the arts in this public church to serve the needs of people throughout Center City and greater Philadelphia.
A complete profile of Christ Church, our music program and hopes for worship, and a complete job description and application materials based on AAM guidelines are on the web pages below. The search for a permanent director of music is independent of our current interim arrangement, and all candidates are subject to the same application process.
