DISCIPLES OF CHRIST IN COMMUNITY

Beginning Tuesday evening, September 23, 2008, Christ Church will begin a small group faith-formation program called Disciples of Christ in Community (DOCC).

At the center of this 14-week faith journey is the gathering of small groups in which each participant will be a member. Led by a highly trained member of the congregation, this small group will become a “church in miniature” of prayer, action and study.

The weekly small group follows a simple dinner and presentation by clergy that mines deep into the basic pieces of faith – Scripture, prayer, and community – for the jewels of the Spirit’s work in our lives here and now.

The DOCC program is well known and tested throughout the Episcopal Church. Churches like Christ Church, where busy parishioners who might not be inclined to study the faith as a member of a small group, doubt they can make a long-term weekly commitment. Yet at Trinity Church, Copley Square in Boston, hundreds have participated to creatively transform the faith and outreach of that very traditional congregation. Currently, the DOCC program is at the center of faith and congregational renewal at the Washington National Cathedral. Your participation in this program will be participation in God’s work in your own life, as we join together to build the future of Christ Church in as serious way as providing for the bricks and mortar currently being placed into the walls of our venerable church building.
